Dear Residents,
We’d like to share a few important updates and also address some recent questions we’ve received.
As many of you know, Claude Hughes, a long-time and dedicated employee, is no longer working with the Bear Paw Service District. To be completely transparent, Claude chose to leave on his own, and we are sincerely grateful for the many years of hard work and service he provided to the community.
We also want to clear up any misinformation — Claude was not fired. His decision was entirely his own, and we fully respect it. While Claude is no longer with the Service District, he has let us know that he will continue working independently for individual residents who wish to hire him privately.
Regarding the pool, we want to acknowledge the ongoing delay and explain the reason behind it. Some of the parts required for repair are outdated and must be specially manufactured. This has unfortunately extended the timeline beyond what we had hoped, but we are in constant contact with suppliers and doing everything we can to expedite the process. We know how much everyone wants to see the pool reopened, and we truly appreciate your patience.
In the meantime, we’ve been making progress on a number of smaller maintenance projects that had been neglected for some time. These updates may not always be visible right away, but they are important to the long-term upkeep and safety of our community facilities.
We’re also thrilled to report that the Fourth of July weekend was a great success. The turnout for the live event was phenomenal, and it was heartwarming to see our community come together in celebration.
A special thank you goes out to Andy and Beth Whitener for their generous donation of both materials and labor for the new mini-split unit at the guard shack. Their support has made a real difference, and we’re truly grateful.
Looking ahead, we have several improvement projects in motion. These things take time, but we remain committed to steady, thoughtful progress.
We are excited to report that the website has been expanded over the last months with a lot of additional information. Please visit the bearpawnc.com website frequently to stay informed about events and other topics. If you have questions or need a login password just use the Contact Us form on the website and we will respond as soon as we can.
Thank you all for your continued support, patience, and investment in our shared community.
Sincerely,
Bruce Roydes
Bear Paw Chairman

Carolina Water (Utilities, Inc.) reminds us to NOT spray chemicals or insecticides within 100 feet of a pump house or stream.
Chemicals will seep into the ground and if they contaminate our water supply in Bear Paw we will have a major issue with drinkable water availability for a long time.
Thank you for helping us keep our water clean and safe.
Pool is currently Closed
Due to circumstances beyond our control the pool will remain closed indefinitely.
The parts which were ordered to repair the pool filters are not available and will have to be manufactured. This is due to the age of the filters. There are not any parts available at this time so parts will have to be specially ordered to be manufactured for Bear Paw.
Once the parts arrive, work to make the repairs will begin as soon as possible. After the repairs are completed we can request an inspection from the County. At this time we do not have a timeline for opening the pool because we cannot control when the parts will be available or when we can schedule a County inspection.
We have gotten information that the parts being manufactured should arrive around the 3rd week of August. After that, we will get them installed and the pool inspected as soon as possible.
The board is committed to continuing to communicate via this website about the condition of the pool and to make the repairs as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve the issues keeping the Bear Paw pool from opening.
This website will be updated as things progress.
